The Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR)
New York State Homes and Community Renewal consists of all New York State’s major housing and community renewal, including the Division of Housing and Community Renewal (DHCR).
The DHCR is responsible for the supervision, maintenance, and development of affordable low and moderate income housing in New York State. This agency creates regulations that landlords with rent stabilized property must comply with and oversees the rent-stabilized units throughout New York in order to ensure that landlords are not exceeding the maximum legal rent they are permitted to collect.
Landlords are required to register the rent and services of rent-stabilized units with the DHCR annually. If landlords do not register with the DHCR, they can be disqualified from applying for, charging or collecting any rent increases and could be subject to additional, significant penalties. However, landlords can appeal these findings. Our firm has successfully represented hundreds of landlords in DHCR proceedings. If you have a DHCR proceeding, contact our firm at (914) 965-1011 and let us help you.
