Section 8 and Other Public Assistance
Section 8 is a federal assistance program to help people with low-incomes pay their rent. People who receive Section 8 assistance pay a certain amount of rent based on their income and the remaining costs of rent is paid by the Section 8 program. Even though this is a federal program, Section 8 is administered locally by municipal public housing agencies or private contractors which certify the tenants and residences for participation in the program. In Westchester County, CVR New York runs the Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program. To learn more about the Section 8 program, click HERE. To learn more about CVR, click HERE.
